NEW YORK – – Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras, who led all rookies with nine assists and 11 points in nine games (2-9-11), has been named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for December.

Zegras edged Florida Panthers center Anton Lundell (4-4-8 in 9 GP), Nashville Predators left wing Tanner Jeannot (3-5-8 in 10 GP), and Detroit Red Wings teammates Lucas Raymond (1-6-7 in 9 GP) and Moritz Seider (1-6-7 in 9 GP) for the honor.

Zegras found the scoresheet in six of his nine December appearances, including a four-game streak to open the month that featured three straight multi-assist performances (Dec. 1-6: 0-7-7) as well as a first-of-its-kind ‘alley-oop’ assist that created a viral moment and prompted reaction across social media (Dec. 7 at BUF).

Zegras, the ninth overall pick from the 2019 NHL Draft, became the fourth rookie in the last 25 years to record multiple helpers in three consecutive games, following Mathew Barzal (3 GP in 2017-18 w/ NYI), Artemi Panarin (3 GP in 2015-16 w/ CHI) and Patrick Kane (3 GP in 2007-08 w/ CHI) – all of whom went on to win the Calder Memorial Trophy.

The 20-year-old Bedford, N.Y., native – who has played in 30 total contests this season – ranks among the top rookies in shots on goal (1st; 73), points (2nd; 25), power-play goals (t-2nd; 2), game-winning goals (t-2nd; 2), assists (3rd; 17), power-play assists (3rd; 4), power-play points (3rd; 6) and goals (t-4th; 8).

Zegras, who also shares the League lead among all players (rookie or veteran) with three shootout goals in 2021-22 (including one Dec. 9 at CBJ), joins Seider (October) and Raymond (November) as “Rookie of the Month” winners this season.

He is the first Ducks player to be named “Rookie of the Month” since goaltender John Gibson in December 2015 and the first Anaheim skater to receive the honor since right wing Bobby Ryan in January 2009.
