Hughes has goal, two assists for Devils in win against Blue Jackets


NEWARK, N.J. — Jack Hughes had a goal and two assists for the New Jersey Devils in a 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Prudential Center on Thursday.

It was the third time Hughes has scored three points during a five-game point streak (four goals, eight assists).

Jesper Bratt and Tomas Tatar each had a goal and an assist, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 31 saves for the Devils (14-16-5), who have won four of their past five games.

Max Domi scored, and Joonas Korpisalo made 25 saves for the Blue Jackets (15-16-1), who have lost three in a row and five of six.

Bratt scored a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the high slot to make it 2-1 at 1:16 of the third period. Bratt has scored eight points (two goals, six assists) in his past five games.

Tatar took a pass in the slot and scored on a backhand to give the Devils a 1-0 lead 51 seconds into the first.

Domi tied it 1-1 at the left post on a rebound off Blackwood’s right pad at 4:54.

Columbus outshot New Jersey 18-5 in the first period. Blackwood made consecutive saves at the left post against Oliver Bjorkstrand and Boone Jenner in the last seven seconds during a Blue Jackets power play.

Hughes scored an empty-net goal at 18:40 of the third period for the 3-1 final.

Columbus forward Jakub Voracek played his 1,000th NHL game. He had one shot in 20:26 of ice time.
