It’s preseason for everyone and that includes Chicago Blackhawks goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.
The veteran goalie couldn’t help but laugh when explaining his decision to take a big gamble in a tune-up game against the Minnesota Wild on Friday.
Fleury bolted out of the crease to challenge Wild forward Kevin Fiala along the boards, just outside the faceoff circle. It did not go well.
He explained his thinking to the media, with a wry smile the entire time.
“Ohhh boy,” Fleury said with a chuckle. “I was thinknig ‘hopefully my D-men are getting back fast.’ I don’t know. I was standing there for a while with no shots and I thought that I could break it out and get a little sweat on the way. Missed it and yeah, my guys were good getting back and helping me out.”
Fluery was asked if it was strictly a preseason move or if he would have gone for the puck when the games count.
“I might,” he said. “I’ve done it, yeah. I feel like maybe this one was a little bit far-fetched a bit, right?”
