Stutzle scores first NHL hat trick, Senators defeat Jets


WINNIPEG — Tim Stutzle scored his first NHL hat trick and the Ottawa Senators won 4-2 against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place on Saturday.

Connor Brown had a goal and two assists for the Senators (22-27-5) and Filip Gustavsson made 27 saves. Shane Pinto had two assists.

Mark Scheifele scored his 200th NHL goal and had an assist for the Jets (28-22-3), who lost for the eighth time in their past nine games. Connor Hellebuyck made 19 saves.

Brown gave the Senators a 1-0 lead at 10:13 of the first period before Stutzle made it 2-0 at 11:29.

55 seconds into the second period Mason Appleton cut the lead to 2-1.

Stutzle scored to make it 3-1 at 5:11 of the third period.

Scheifele made it 3-2 at 19:07 of the third for his milestone goal.

Stutzle, the No. 3 pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, scored a power-play goal into an empty net at 19:54 for the 4-2 final.
