Rally Monkey performs puck drop ahead of Ducks game

Who has five fingers and is primed for puck drop?

The Rally Monkey.

To kick off Angels Night at Honda Center on Sunday, the Anaheim Ducks brought in the Los Angeles Angels VIP for the pre-game puck drop. The Major League Baseball team’s unofficial mascot performed his duties perfectly, but not before turning to the cheering crowd and acknowledging it.

The Rally Monkey hopes to bring the Ducks some luck, as it often does with the Angels.

During an Angels game against the San Francisco Giants on June 6, 2000, scoreboard operators at Angel Stadium played a video with a monkey jumping up and down alongside a clip from Jim Carrey’s “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.” The crowd loved it and the monkey came back for the ninth inning with the team trailing by a run, this time with the words “Rally Monkey,” and yes, the Angels rallied and won.

Since then, the Angels kept the tradition going and hired their own white-haired capuchin monkey named Katie.

On Sunday, the Rally Monkey was also at Honda Center to greet Ducks players as they arrived at the arena.

The monkey came to play, sporting its own custom Ducks jersey, mini stick and puck.

There seems to be some monkey business happening in Anaheim.
