Carey Price left after the first period in the Montreal Canadiens game at the Edmonton Oilers on Monday.

The Canadiens haven’t given a reason, but the Oilers had a goal by Connor McDavid at 12:01 overturned after a coach’s challenge because forward Alex Chiasson interfered with Price.

Price made seven saves before being replaced by Jake Allen to begin the second period with the game tied 0-0.

Price missed six games with a lower-body injury before returning in a 4-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, when he made 11 saves on 14 shots.

Cayden Primeau is Montreal’s emergency goalie.

It was the first time this season that the Canadiens replaced their starting goalie in a game. They did so once last season, when Price was relieved by Keith Kinkaid early in the second period after allowing five goals in an 8-1 loss to the Boston Bruins on Nov. 26, 2019.
