Alex Galchenyuk could practice with the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
The forward was acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, two days after he was traded there by the Ottawa Senators with forward Cedric Paquette for forward Ryan Dzingel.
Because he never left Canada following the trade to Carolina, Galchenyuk, who has one goal in eight games this season, is not subject to quarantine.
“With his skillset and what he’s accomplished in the League, we see great potential there for him,” Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. “We’ll integrate him and put him in the mix of guys competing for spots every night.”

Erik Brannstrom will return to the lineup against the Toronto Maple Leafs (7 p.m. ET; SN, TVAS, NHL.TV).
The defenseman missed the past four games with an undisclosed injury.
“I think he’s going to help us move the puck back there,” coach D.J. Smith said. “I think he can help us get some pucks to the net. He’s just got to do what he did in the games prior.”
Brannstrom has one assist in three games this season.
