McDavid reaches 70 points in Oilers win against Jets

WINNIPEG — Connor McDavid reached 70 points this season with two assists for the Edmonton Oilers in a 3-0 win against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place on Saturday.

McDavid, who had two assists, became the first player to score 70 points this season.

Mike Smith made 26 saves for his third shutout of the season, and Tyson Barrie had a goal and an assist for the Oilers (26-15-2).

Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves for the Jets (27-15-3), who were 0-for-3 on the power play.

Barrie gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 12:00 of the second period off a pass from McDavid.

Jesse Puljujarvi one-timed McDavid’s feed from behind the net to make it 2-0 at 6:37 of the third.

Alex Chiasson redirected Barrie’s one-timer for a power-play goal at 12:57 for the 3-0 final.

Winnipeg outshot Edmonton 13-3 in the third period.
