Nikolai Knyzhov is expected to be out 8-10 weeks for the San Jose Sharks after the defenseman has surgery for a lower-body injury Friday.
Knyzhov missed training camp after scoring 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 56 games as a rookie last season, when he was third on the Sharks with 84 hits and tied for fifth with 54 blocked shots. He played three games for the Sharks and 33 for San Jose of the American Hockey League in 2019-20, the Russia-born native’s first season in North America.
The Sharks visit the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, NBCSCA, ESPN+, NHL LIVE). They defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 in their season opener at home Saturday.
