Questions about if the New York Islanders established themselves as the best team in the MassMutual East Division by trading for forwards Kyle Palmieri and center Travis Zajac, and the market for Buffalo Sabres forward Taylor Hall, were asked and answered on a new episode of the “NHL @TheRink” podcast.
Co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke were joined by NHL.com Toronto-based staff writer Mike Zeisberger for an hour-long roundtable discussion covering all things related to the 2021 NHL Trade Deadline on April 12 at 3 p.m. ET.
Palmieri and Zajac were traded to the Islanders by the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday for a first-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, and minor league forwards A.J. Greer and Mason Jobst.
Rosen, Roarke and Zeisberger discussed how the trade impacts the Islanders, with all three mentioning how they think it was a steal for them.
The co-hosts and Zeisberger also talked about how the Islanders-Devils trade could impact the market for Hall, how it might only take a first-round draft pick to acquire him and potential fits for landing spots.
In addition, the roundtable focused on the St. Louis Blues and if they should be sellers before the deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs possibly addressing their goaltending with Frederik Andersen still sidelined, the Colorado Avalanche goaltending depth, and the futures of two current team captains, Columbus Blue Jackets forward Nick Foligno and Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf, each a pending unrestricted free agent.
