Hertl gives Sharks OT win against Flyers, extends point streak to eight


SAN JOSE — Tomas Hertl scored with 31 seconds left in overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at SAP Center on Thursday.

Hertl knocked in his own rebound in front after a pass from Erik Karlsson on a 2-on-1. Hertl had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to an NHL career-high eight games (eight goals, four assists). 

Logan Couture and Brent Burns scored, and Jacob Middleton had two assists for his first NHL multipoint game for the Sharks (17-14-1). James Reimer made 23 saves.

Felix Sandstrom made 43 saves in his NHL debut for the Flyers (13-12-6), who extended their point streak to seven games (5-0-2).

Morgan Frost gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 15:23 of the first period with a shot in close.

Couture tied it 1-1 with a shorthanded goal at 5:20 of the second period when he stole the puck from Flyers defenseman Keith Yandle and scored on a breakaway. 

Burns gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead at 7:20 with a slap shot from between the circles.

Joel Farabee tied it 2-2 at 15:57 of the third period after the Sharks turned the puck over in the neutral zone.
