Hellebuyck, Jets ease past sliding Senators

WINNIPEG — Connor Hellebuyck made 41 saves for the Winnipeg Jets in a 5-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Bell MTS Place on Thursday.

Neal Pionk extended his point streak to five games with his first goal of the season for the Jets (8-4-1).

Josh Norris scored for the Senators (2-12-1), who lost their fourth straight. Matt Murray allowed three goals on 15 shots through two periods before Marcus Hogberg replaced him to start the third. Hogberg made nine saves.

It was the first of a two-game set; the teams will play again here Saturday. The Jets have won all four games against the Senators this season.

Paul Stastny scored eight seconds into the second period to give Winnipeg a 1-0 lead.

Nikolaj Ehlers made it 2-0 at 7:53 before Blake Wheeler extended the lead to 3-0 on the power play at 19:33.

Mathieu Perreault made it 4-0 at 2:58 of the third period.

Norris cut it to 4-1 at 11:42.
