EDMONTON — Leon Draisaitl had a hat trick and two assists for the Edmonton Oilers in a 7-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Rogers Place on Wednesday.
Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists, Darnell Nurse had a goal and an assist, and Tyson Barrie had three assists for Edmonton (17-11-0), in the second of a three-game series. Mike Smith made 21 saves.
Edmonton, which has won 11 of 15, has won all six games against Ottawa this season. The teams will play here again Friday.
Evgenii Dadonov scored, and Matt Murray made 29 saves for Ottawa (9-19-1).
Nurse scored at 3:52 of the first period on a shot from the point through traffic to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead. The Oilers had controlled the puck in the Senators’ zone for nearly a minute prior to the goal.
Jujhar Khaira made it 2-0 at 5:57 on a pass from Devin Shore on a 2-on-0 rush following a turnover by Dadonov.
Draisaitl scored on an individual rush at 12:08 for a 3-0 lead, and McDavid made it 4-0 at 13:26 on a shot from the slot.
Draisaitl scored his second goal, on the power play, at 7:01 of the second period to put the Oilers up 5-0.
James Neal scored at 8:03 a shot from the top of the left face-off circle for a 6-0 lead, and Draisaitl completed the hat trick at 7:35 of the third period on a drop pass from McDavid to make it 7-0.
Dadonov scored at 11:11 for the 7-1 final.
Senators forward Colin White fell awkwardly into the end boards and had to be helped off the ice at 8:35 of the second period.
