You could say Brenden Dillon threw in the towel on Sunday.
The Washington Capitals defenseman didn’t quit on the game. He in fact literally threw a towel on the ice after it mistakenly got stuck to his stick blade while heading out to the ice for a shift.
The odd occurrence happened during the third period of the Capitals game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Dillon was already on the ice when he realized the towel he was using on the bench came along with him while defending in the Washington zone.
Dillon thought fast and threw the laundry away so he could use his stick.
Fortunately for Washington there was no penalty and they were not charged with a use of a replay challenge.
