Avalanche defeat Coyotes in shootout, extend home winning streak to 13


DENVER — Andre Burakovsky had a goal and an assist for the Colorado Avalanche in a 4-3 shootout win against the Arizona Coyotes at Ball Arena on Friday.

Nazem Kadri scored the lone shootout goal, which came in the third round.

Mikko Rantanen and Tyson Jost scored, Devon Toews had two assists, and Pavel Francouz made 23 saves for Colorado (23-8-3), which extended its record home winning streak to 13.

Ivan Prosvetov made 44 saves for Arizona (8-23-4), which is 2-1-1 in its past four games.

Rantanen gave the Avalanche a 1-0 lead at 4:36 of the first period when he converted the rebound after a Toews shot from the right point.

Jost made it 2-0 at 12:03. Kurtis MacDermid‘s wraparound attempt slid into the slot and Jost put in the loose puck.

Clayton Keller scored shorthanded to cut it to 2-1 at 17:31 when he skated down right wing with Toews, fended him off while skating through the goalmouth and shot off Francouz’s pad.  

Johan Larsson tied 2-2 at 6:12 of the second period. Andrew Ladd fed Larsson with a drop pass in the right face-off circle for a short side shot.

Shayne Gostisbehere put the Coyotes ahead 3-2 at 39 seconds into the third period, shooting short side from the right circle off a pass from Phil Kessel.

Burakovsky tied 3-3 at 1:08 when he skated into the left circle and shot glove side.

Colorado defenseman Ryan Murray sustained an upper-body injury in the second period and didn’t return.
